Christenson Transportation expands via partnership

Posted online
Strafford trucking company Christenson Transportation has partnered with Dallas-based Total Transportation Services LLC to expand its services.

Christenson Transportation and Total Transportation reached an agency agreement to operate under one network, according to President, CEO and majority owner Don Christenson. Christenson Transportation remains independently and locally owned.

Total Transportation previously offered only logistics services and began expanding last year by partnering with trucking companies, Christenson said.

For Christenson Transportation, the partnership means more services for its customers. With a fleet of more than 100 trucks and 230 trailers, the company previously offered only truckload transportation. It now can offer intermodal, air freight and ocean freight services, Christenson said.

"We have had a lot of customers that have asked if we could increase the services we have to offer," Christenson said. "This is one of the solutions that we were able to come up with - being involved with Total. They're a $300-million-a-year entity, as opposed to us (at) $20 million a year. We're in a bigger pool of opportunity."

The partnership likely will create a need for additional drivers. Christenson said he hopes to hire another 25 to 30 drivers by the end of the year.

Christenson Transportation currently has 29 employees and about 110 owner-operator contractors at its 2001 W. Old Route 66 facility in Strafford. There are six full-time employees at the company's other facility in Lebanon, Tenn.

The company was founded as a brokerage business in 1979 by Don Christenson's father, Gene. Don Christenson joined the company in 1990 and founded the truck line in 1995.[[In-content Ad]]
