Chocolate You Can Feel Extra Good About

Posted online
Chocolatier Shawn Askinosie was a lifelong dedicated defense attorney, trying some high profile criminal cases over the course of his 20-year career in southwest Missouri.

Today he deals in chocolate that’s “to die for.”

Beyond Fair Trade
Askinosie creates his chocolate in a way that’s literally more than fair. He pays his cacao farmers a price that is actually beyond the fair trade rate. His philosophy, learned from fellow Ozarks businessman Jack Stack, is to offer them “A Stake in the Outcome.” Askinosie travels to Ecuador and Mexico to personally meet with his farmers and to share 10 percent of the net profits from the chocolate made from the beans grown on their farms.

Sharing profits. Sharing recipes.
Now the lawyer turned chocolate maker is sharing some of his favorite chocolate-lovers recipes with us—which is also way more than fair, in our opinion. We invite you to try some of these in the next week or so—after all, February 14 is only days away.

They say chocolate is a natural mood enhancer. When you’re buying chocolate that treats the cacao beans farmers this fairly…well, your “chocolate high” will likely soar to even sweeter heights.
