“We’ve had a lot of patients come in who are back from Iraq … and (we) discovered Operation Paperback,” said Tara Meek, operations manager and Meek’s wife. “They talked about how the books really helped them over there, and we thought this might be a great thing to do … for the troops.”
New patients who donate 10 or more new or gently used books can receive a free consultation, exam and X-rays (if necessary) on Feb. 6. That’s a $175 value.
On Feb. 5, existing patients who donate books can get a free adjustment, which usually runs $35 to $45.
Meek said her husband has been practicing in Springfield for about 13 years, and has been conducting drives to help others for the last five years. The practice usually gathers food for The Kitchen for the holidays, and helps Big Brothers/Big Sisters and Camp Barnabas collect school supplies, all in exchange for free services.
Meek said some people who first visit Meek Chiropractic in exchange for a donation do become regular patients, but she isn’t sure of the percentage.
“Some just kind of want to check us out,” Meek added. “Also, it kind of lets them know what chiropractic is all about, because we get a lot of patients who have never been to a chiropractor, because … they’re a little nervous about it. The main thing is the donations.”
For more information or to make an appointment in exchange for a donation, call the clinic at (417) 887-0340. Meek said the book drive might be extended for a full week depending on demand. [[In-content Ad]]
