Chipotle shutters store that filed to unionize

Posted online

Chipotle permanently shuttered a store that filed to unionize last month.

The store in Augusta, Maine, had been temporarily closed since June 17 due to "ongoing staffing challenges," according to a spokesperson.

"We have been unable to adequately staff this remote restaurant with crew and continue to be plagued with excessive call-outs and lack of availability from existing staff," said Laurie Schalow, chief corporate affairs officer at Chipotle.

Union officials are accusing the chain of trying to stifle workers with the closure.
