Chipotle has posted its first quarterly net loss since it went public in 2006.
The company's first-quarter net loss was $26.4 million, compared to profits of $122.6 million a year earlier.
Officials cited lower same-store sales, fewer purchases and more promotional discount offers. Same-store sales were down nearly 30 percent from a year earlier.
The company's quarter was hurt by efforts to regain face after numerous customers around the country were sickened by multiple outbreaks of foodborne illnesses.
