Chinese scientists find literal gold mine under the sea

Chinese scientists have discovered a massive gold mine under the country’s waters. Now, the question is how to reach it.

Although China is the world’s leading producer of gold, it lacks the technology needed to access the deposit estimated to be worth “hundreds of billions of yuan,” according to the country’s government-authorized China Internet Information Center.

The deposit of roughly 470 tons of the precious metal lies more than a mile under the country’s Bohai Sea – roughly twice as deep as most mines found on land.
 
China’s first oceanic gold discovery comes three years after Shandong Third Institute of Geological and Mineral Exploration began the search.
