Chinese mobile developer buys stake in Tesla

Tencent, a Chinese mobile developer of games and messaging apps, invested $1.8 billion for a 5 percent stake in Tesla.

Known for its popular WeChat message app, Tencent also owns mobile games "Clash of Clans" and "Clash Royale."

Years ago, Tencent quietly invested in Snapchat before it went public.
