China's Shanghai index posts double-digit loss for 2016

China's blue-chip index ended the year more than 12 percent lower despite signs of resilience in the world's second-largest economy.

On Friday, the CSI300 index rose 0.4 percent to 3,309.99 points at the close, while the Shanghai Composite Index gained 0.2 percent to 3,103.40 points.

The Shanghai index ended the year down 12.3 percent.
