China's exports dip unexpectedly

Amid the ongoing trade war with the United States, China's exports dropped unexpectedly in August.

The country's exports were down 1% compared with a year earlier. Imports also fell 5.6%, leaving a trade surplus of roughly $34.8 billion. Exports to the United States were down 16% compared with August 2018.

Economists expected China's exports would grow 2.2% during the month.
