"The escalation of trade conflicts doesn't benefit either side's interests," Chinese Commerce Ministry spokesman Gao Feng said.
President Donald Trump last week said $200 billion worth of new tariffs on Chinese goods might go into effect "very soon." He also cautioned larger measures are "ready to go on short notice if I want."
