Talks have renewed in the Trump administration’s threat to hike tariffs on China, and the Chinese government has again vowed to fight back if Washington proceeds.
A foreign ministry spokeswoman complained the U.S. decision to renew a threat to raise duties on a $50 billion list of Chinese goods conflicts with an agreement in mid-May aimed at settling that dispute, the Associated Press reports.
It was thought the conflict was on hold following a promise to buy more U.S. goods in order to narrow China’s multibillion-dollar trade surplus with the United States.
The full list of imports that will be covered will be announced by June 15, the report said.
