China sentences scientist behind gene-edited babies

A Chinese court sentenced scientist He Jiankui to three years in prison a year after he announced the creation of the world's first gene-edited babies.

The gene-editing technique resulted in the births of three babies whose DNA was changed to be resistant to HIV.

The Chinese court also ordered He to pay $430,000 for conducting illegal medical practices.
