China retakes spot as biggest holder of U.S. debt

After just one month, China has nudged Japan out of the way, retaking the top spot as the world's biggest holder of U.S. debt.

Data released Friday by the U.S. Treasury Department indicates China owned $1.261 trillion worth of American government securities at the end of March. Japan owned $1.227 trillion, according to CNNMoney.

China, which had been selling U.S. debt, upped its Treasury holdings for the first time since August.
