Missouri State University's vice president for research and economic development and international programs will receive China's National Friendship Award Oct. 1. It is the highest honor the Chinese government gives to foreign experts who have made contributions to the country.
Jim Baker has been invited to receive the award during National Day in Beijing. “I am honored to receive this prestigious award from the Chinese government on behalf of the faculty and staff at Missouri State University, who have worked diligently to make our programs in China successful,” he said in the release.
The award recognizes individuals for achievements and dedication to China's development and construction in the fields of economics, technology, education and culture.
As vice president for research and economic development, Baker is charged with the responsibility and coordination of programs and services of MSU's Office of China Programs. The office promotes educational, research and cultural opportunities and exchanges between MSU and its partner universities in China. In 2000, MSU and Liaoning Normal University launched the LNU-MSU College of International Business, located in Dalian, according to the MSU
website.
About 50 foreign experts receive China's annual National Friendship Award, the release said.
