China promises to hit back after US proposes fresh tariffs

Chinese officials say they will strike back if the United States adds tariffs on an additional $200 billion worth of Chinese goods.

“This is a fight between unilateralism and multilateralism, protectionism and free trade, might and rules,” foreign ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said in a regular briefing on Wednesday.

The Trump administration on Tuesday outlined hundreds of items it plans to hit with the new tariffs, including food products and tobacco, chemicals, coal, steel and aluminum.
