China ordered the United States to close its Chengdu consulate.
The move is seen as retaliation for the United States' demand this week that China shutter its consulate in Houston, Texas.
The U.S. consulate in Chengdu opened in 1985. It has nearly 200 employees, including around 150 locally hired staff members.
