China, Japan call for U.S. to avoid default

China and Japan, which combined hold $2.4 trillion in U.S. debt, are calling for a quick resolution to a possible default in America.

In its first official response, China Vice Finance Minister Zhu Guangyao said a solution must be found to ensure Chinese investments are kept safe, according to CNNMoney.

"We ask that the United States earnestly take steps to resolve in a timely way the political issues around the debt ceiling and prevent a debt default," he said. "This is the United States' responsibility."
