China imposes sanctions on US lawmakers, including Hawley

China imposed sanctions on some U.S. legislators, including Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Missouri.

Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Arkansas, also is named in the sanctions in response to behaving "egregiously on Hong Kong-related issues," said Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian. He did not specify what the sanctions entail.

The lawmakers have been vocal critics of a new national security law that Beijing imposed on Hong Kong in late June.
