Chinese bargain-hunters spent a record amount with Internet retailers Monday, smashing last year's tally for the country's busiest online shopping day by early afternoon.
Sales on Tmall.com, China's version of Amazon, rose to $164 million in the first few minutes and by early afternoon surpassed last year's figure of $3.1 billion, according to CNNMoney.
The Chinese retail holiday falls on Nov. 11 and was created in response to Valentine's Day, the report said.
