China accused President Donald Trump of slander after he alleged the country is meddling in upcoming U.S. congressional elections.
Speaking for the first time as chair of the U.N. Security Council Wednesday, Trump alleged China is attempting to influence the elections because of the ongoing trade war between the two countries.
Geng Shuang, a foreign ministry spokesman for China, said the United States should "stop making unwarranted accusations and slanders against China and stop the words and deeds that harm bilateral ties and the fundamental interest of the two peoples.”
