China approves $36B rail project

China's National Development and Reform Commission approved an expansion to the country's rail network.

The $36 billion plan calls on connecting Beijing to the port city of Tianjin, as well as cities in neighboring Hebei Province.

The project would comprise nine new rail lines stretching over 680 miles. It's expected to be completed by 2020.
