Chick-fil-A expansion in the works at MSU

Chick-fil-A's restaurant on the campus of Missouri State University is in expansion mode.

The Missouri State University Board of Governors Executive Committee yesterday gave the green light to a renovation project with a total budget of $507,000. The project will support a design refresh and expansion for Chick-fil-A's food vendor space on the first floor of MSU's Plaster Student Union.

With a base bid of $349,000, CB-GC LLC was approved as general contractor for the work, with completion expected this summer. Funding comes from the Chick-fil-A refresh budget within MSU's food service reserves.

Emily Letterman, public relations strategist at MSU, said via email that Chick-fil-A would absorb neighboring vendor space currently occupied by Queen City Soul Kitchen, bringing its total size to 1,107 square feet. Letterman noted Queen City Soul Kitchen would close at the end of the academic year, with construction on the space to follow this summer.

"The expansion will incorporate the current Queen City Soul (Kitchen) area to improve cooking workflow and customer service, with updated equipment and cookware to accommodate additional menu items," the executive committee board agenda reads. "Additionally, kiosk ordering stations will be installed."

Chick-fil-A was announced as a new food vendor at MSU in 2011 as part of a larger contract involving Starbucks and Subway, according to Springfield Business Journal archives.

Chick-fil-A's website lists five restaurants in Springfield. An early 2026 opening is planned for its sixth, a restaurant located near Sunshine Street and West Bypass, according to past reporting.
