Chevron announced it would acquire Noble Energy in a $5 billion all-stock deal.
It's the largest U.S. energy sector deal announced so far this year.
The deal comes more than a year after Chevron abandoned its offer for Anadarko Petroleum after a higher bid by Occidental Petroleum.
