Chevron announced a cash-and-stock deal valued at $33 billion for Anadarko Petroleum.
The deal announced today values Texas-based Anadarko at $65 per share, a 39 percent premium from its Thursday closing price.
The purchase reportedly would boost Chevron's natural gas and shale operations.
