The businesses of Cherokee Nation ended fiscal 2014 with record revenue of $829 million and operating income of $105 million.
According to the annual audit of the tribe’s economic development arm, revenue rose 16 percent and income was up 8 percent last year. Tulsa Business & Legal News reports the net payment to the Cherokee Nation tribe amounted to $47 million to support housing, health care and education services. The remainder of CNB’s income is reinvested into job creation, business development and diversification, according to Tulsa Business.
CNB now employs about 6,000 people. More than 4,500 of those jobs are scattered across northeast Oklahoma, with 75 percent being Cherokee Nation citizens.
Tribe officials say 2015 income is 16 percent of last year’s record.
