Hague-based OPCW, which is overseeing destruction of Syria's chemical weapons, has been selected to receive the Nobel Peace Prize.
The selection of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons came as a surprise to many, who expected the prize to go to Pakistani teenage activist Malala Yousafzai, who was shot by the Taliban for fighting for girls’ rights to education, according to Al Jazeera.
The OPCW, based in the Netherlands, has some 500 staff members and an annual budget under $100 million.
