Cheap oil forces Saudi Arabia to consider cutting gas subsidies

Cheap oil is forcing Saudi Arabia to consider cutting government subsidies on gas.

The country gives drivers a large discount. They pay less than 10 percent of the average price in Europe, according to the International Energy Agency.

The International Monetary Fund has warned that if oil stays around $50 a barrel, Saudi Arabia will “exhaust its reserves of cash within five years.”
