Charitable donations by affluent Missourians below average

In 2013, affluent Missourians will donate an average of $7,424, according to a study by BMO Private Bank. The national average is $8,845.

Only 35 percent of high net wealth Missourians plan to donate more than they did before the 2008 recession, compared to 48 percent of Americans nationwide, the Kansas City Business Journal reports.

Missourians plan to leave an average of 6 percent of their estates to charity, while the nationwide average is 7 percent.

Seventy percent of wealthy Missourians donate to religious organizations. The state has one of the highest rates of religious donations in the nation; 49 percent  is the national average.
