Chance the Rapper pledges $1M to Chicago Public Schools

Posted online
Musician Chance the Rapper announced plans to donate $1 million to Chicago Public Schools for after-school and enrichment programs.

The rapper and singer said the money - which would come from ticket sales at his upcoming tour - is a "call to action" for others. He said his nonprofit, Social Works, would donate another $10,000 to a different Chicago school for every $100,000 raised.

“This isn’t about politics. This isn’t about posturing,” Chance said. "Everybody and their mama knows about what’s going on in Chicago."

According to Billboard, some 400,000 children will be out of school by June. In violent neighborhoods, these kids would be “possibly put in harm’s way," according to Chance.
