The seminar, “Payment Cards and Fraud Management: Securing the Transactions of the American Economy,” is at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the chamber’s offices, 202 S. John Q. Hammons Parkway.
Visa USA Director of Fraud Control Buddy Tinnell and U.S. Chamber of Commerce Director of Congressional and Public Affairs Mike Zaneis will teach methods for protecting customer data and preventing credit card fraud.
Congressman Roy Blunt also will be on hand to discuss any federal legislation relating to data security.
The ultimate goal for seminar is to protect consumers, Visa USA Vice President Rosetta Jones said.
“The attempts to commit fraud are increasing, so we need to make sure that our businesses out there have the information and tools necessary to prevent it at the checkout line,” she said.
Advances in technology require business owners to be on their toes when it comes to storing consumer information, she said.
“Given that a lot of our transactions in commerce have grown to be electronic, there is the potential for criminals to access information electronically unbeknownst to businesses today,” she said. “Our goal is … for merchants to understand what data they’re storing to see if they’re a potential victim.”
Those interested in attending are asked to contact the chamber at (417) 862-5567 or sandy@springfieldchamber.com. The event is free, but space is limited.
