Five Springfield companies were named finalists for this year's W. Curtis Strube Small Business of the Year Award, presented by the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce.
The finalists are Allen Filters, Barker Phillips Jackson Inc., Environmental Works Inc., Russell Cellular and Signature Bank, according to the chamber.
The finalists were chosen by an independent panel based on company history, business philosophy, response to challenges, innovative products or services and community contributions. The winner of the W. Curtis Strube Small Business of the Year Award will be announced at a May 8 awards luncheon at the University Plaza Hotel, 333 John Q. Hammons Pkwy.
The late W. Curtis Strube, for which the award is named, was the director of Drury Univers-ity's Breech School of Busi-ness.
A supporter of small businesses, Strube founded the chamber's Small Business Council.
