Chamber holds immigration forum for employers

Posted online
A forum Thursday will help local employers learn to ensure they hire legal immigrants – an issue at the forefront of many business owners’ minds after Tuesday’s illegal immigrant sting at a Barry County poultry-processing plant.

Michael Jaromin, district director of the Kansas City Office of U.S. Immigration and Citizenship Services, will be the featured presenter at the 10 a.m. forum at the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce, 2020 S. John Q. Hammons Parkway. Jaromin will speak on hiring legal immigrants, and visas and how to apply for them.

The forum is free to chamber members. To register to attend, visit www.springfieldchamber.com; there is no deadline to sign up. It is the chamber’s second forum this year on immigration law.

The forum is on the heels of the more than 100 arrests made Tuesday at George’s Processing Inc. in Butterfield, north of Cassville. Federal authorities detained employees believed to be illegal immigrants in an ongoing investigation into identity fraud and illegal immigrant employment.
