Five companies have been selected as finalists for the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce's W. Curtis Strube Small Business Award.
The award, to be presented by the chamber's Small Business Council, is selected based on written applications and will be handed out during a May 5 awards luncheon at the Clarion Hotel.
The 2010 finalists, in alphabetical order, are:
• Altec Computers and PCMedics Inc., which rebuilds and certifies computer systems;
• Corporate Business Systems Inc., which sells office automation equipment such as copiers, mailing equipment and document management software;
• Dunton & Associates LLC, a Springfield-based accounting firm;
• The Carpet Shoppe Inc., which sells and installs various carpet, wood, stone and tile flooring; and
• The Conservatory of the Ozarks LLC, which offers private and group music lessons for students of all ages.
The annual Small Business of the Year Award is named for the late director of the Breech School of Business at Drury University, W. Curtis Strube, and has been given since 1992.
