Community Foundation of the Ozarks wrapped up its 2014-15 Metro Springfield Grantmaking Program with four awards to Springfield schools.
Intended to spark innovative and creative teaching methods, the grants total $223,394 for the cycle and are expected to leverage another $100,000 in matching funds, according to a news release.
The latest grants, presented last week, totaled $8,394. Funding was awarded to:
- Hickory Hills Middle School, $2,500 for a software-based instructional program dubbed Making Pies with Technology, which builds math skills using pie charts;
- Springfield Public Schools, $2,125 for a collaborative project with Burrell Behavioral Health that teaches five summer school classes on social skills such as coping and communication;
- Central High School, $1,990 for its Three Cheers for Three C’s program, which creates two alternative learning spaces called Creative Collaboration Commons for students to work on projects; and
- Sherwood Elementary School, $1,779 for Razzing Even More Kids to Read Everything From A-Z, a program designed to improve literacy.
