CFO seeks nominations for Humanitarian of the Year

Community Foundation of the Ozarks is accepting nominations through Oct. 20 for the 19th annual Humanitarian of the Year Award.

The award honors an individual who has donated services, time and resources toward helping others, according to a news release. An independent selection committee picks the honoree.

Download a nomination form here. Nominations should be mailed to Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce President Jim Anderson at PO Box 1687, Springfield, MO, 65801-1687.

The honoree receives a crystal award and a $5,000 cash grant to be divided equally among the recipient and charities of the recipient’s choice. The award is made possible by an endowment fund established by Jewell Thompson Schweitzer, a former CFO board member and current advisory director, the release said.

Past recipients are Marie Prater; Pat Walker; Mary Beth O’Reilly; Sister Lorraine Biebel; Calvin Allen; Leonard Spellman; Linda Duncan and Janie Brunette, RN, MSN; Dr. Dorsey Levell; E.E. “Johnny” Johnson; Dr. Jim Blaine; John Harp; Paul and Cyndy Teas; Judge Tom E. Mountjoy; Harold Bengsch; Dr. John Bentley; Wade E. Palmer; Dr. Judith Gonzalez; and William and Virginia Darr.

CFO is comprised of 40 affiliate community foundations and more than 1,400 charitable funds totaling $150 million. The organization helps with asset development, community-based grant-making, organizational collaboration and leadership initiatives throughout the region, the release said.
