Community Foundation of the Ozarks yesterday awarded $50,000 to six Ozarks nonprofit agencies.

The grants are part of this year's Metropolitan Springfield Red-Flag Response Challenge Grant program, which gives funding to address red-flag issues tied to the Springfield-Greene County Community Focus Report. According to a news release, the latest grants bring this year's CFO total awarded to $205,000, and since the funds are matching grants, an additional $125,000 has been raised for nonprofits.

The latest round of grants were awarded to:
  • Center City Christian Outreach Inc., $10,000 to renovate and improve accessibility at 418 S. Kimbrough Ave. to provide food pantry access to those in need in Springfield's center city;
  • Community Partnership of the Ozarks, $10,000 to implement a program to educate teachers and parents on how to help children avoid disruptive classroom behavior;
  • Ozarks Counseling Center, $10,000 to launch an anger management program for children ages 5 through 12;
  • Springfield Regional Arts Council, $10,000 to assess, analyze and cover costs related to civility training for at-risk children participating in summer arts-enrichment programs, in conjunction with The Forest Institute;
  • Healthy Living Alliance and Ozarks Regional YMCA, $5,000 to expand after-school dance and exercise classes for children in grades K-6 at low-income schools; and
  • Sigma House of Springfield, $5,000 to expand a family preservation program by creating a landscaped playground area for the children of parents in residential or out-patient addiction treatment programs.
