Cern considers building huge physics machine

As if the Large Hadron Collider isn't enough fun for scientists, the minds in Geneva are considering building an underground "atom smasher."

According to BBC News, the decision follows a high level meeting of scientists last week in Geneva, near the European particle physics center, Cern. The proposal is for a 100-kilometer tunnel which would encircle the Swiss city. It would reach to the Alps in the east, the Jura mountains in the west and even go under Lake Geneva.

The project would dwarf the 27-kilometer Large Hadron Collider project, previously a scientific record.
