The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention put a temporary eviction moratorium in place through year's end.
The order goes into effect immediately. It applies to all rental units nationwide. It follows a former federal eviction moratorium that ended in late July and only applied to federally funded housing.
Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said the new moratorium covers roughly 40 million renters.
