Cavner to attend Dalai Lama ceremony at Capitol

Posted online
Springfield financial adviser Nadia Cavner is in Washington D.C. today to witness a piece of American history.

Cavner, of the Nadia Cavner Group at Bancorpsouth Investment Services, will attend this afternoon’s presentation of the Congressional Gold Medal to the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet. She and husband Howard are gold sponsors for the event, to be held at 1 p.m. at the U.S. Capitol.

“I always have been really supportive of the Tibet movement and really intrigued by His Holiness,” Cavner said of her involvement. “We’re just very blessed to be able to share this – it’s such a historical event.”

This won’t be Cavner’s first encounter with the Dalai Lama. She and daughter Maral were invited to meet him last fall in New York City.

“That’s how our interest developed,” she said. “He’s such a wonderful and peaceful man.”

Cavner, her husband and her daughter also will attend the Gold Medal Gala: America Celebrates the Dalai Lama event Thursday evening, featuring prominent legislators and well-known celebrities such as Richard Gere and Martin Scorsese.

Along for the experience are a handful of Cavner’s colleagues and friends, including Dr. Dan Osborn, of Missouri Eye Institute, and wife Michele; Drs. Alan and Dawn Zablocki; author R.J. Shook; Shari and Sam DeArmon; and Dennis, Stephanie and Ashley O’Dell.
