The U.S. Roman Catholic Church received at least $1.4 billion in Paycheck Protection Program loans.
The Associated Press reports the church had lobbied for an exemption in the coronavirus stimulus rules to allow religious groups with more than 500 workers to apply for funding.
Catholic dioceses, parishes, schools and other ministries have received at least 3,500 forgivable loans, according to the report.
