Casper’s restaurant plans to vacate its iconic Quonset hut downtown and relocate to the former Anton’s Coffee Shop on Glenstone Avenue by late summer or early fall.

Owner Shawn Kraft unveiled the plans in a video posted to Casper’s Facebook page. Anton’s operated at the 937 S. Glenstone Ave. spot for nearly 50 years before it closed in 2020.

"We are firing Casper's up and we might even have a little nostalgic breakfast for you, too," Kraft said in the video.

An attempt to reach Kraft immediately for comment by deadline was unsuccessful.

In the video, he said the relocation marks the third move for Casper's, which is known largely for its chili. The company's Facebook page indicated it started in a building on the site of the parking garage on Walnut Street west of the Landers Theater in 1909, moved to a Quonset hut at Glenstone Avenue and Cherokee Street in 1948 and set up at its current location, 601 W. Walnut St., in 1985.

Casper's will be open at its current location through June 4, Kraft said in the video, after which he’ll shut down operations temporarily in preparation for the move.

Anton’s closed after owner Anton “Tony” Tasich died in early 2020.

Greene County assessor records show the property is owned by One Hundred Two Glenstone Inc.
