Ankeny, Iowa-based Casey’s General Stores Inc. (Nasdaq: CASY) has opened its first Springfield-area Goodstop store at a recently shuttered Macadoodles in Republic.
Goodstop, a smaller-footprint concept from Casey's that has gas, snacks, drinks and tobacco products, opened at 1439 US-60 in Republic oin Aug. 16, according to a Casey's spokesperson. The Macadoodles store at the site operated through Aug. 11, the spokesperson said.
The Goodstop store employs 11 in the building that spans 10,742 square feet, according to the spokesperson.
Casey’s operated 63 Goodstop stores as of April 30, according to a disclosure filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission earlier this year. The company announced the launch of the concept in 2022.
Casey's also has a Republic store at 604 N. Main St., according to its website.
The Macadoodles store in Republic had been managed by O’Reilly Hospitality Management LLC. Businessman Tim O’Reilly reopened the Republic store in 2015 after it had been closed for three years, according to Springfield Business Journal archives.
Greene County Assessor and Recorder filings show O'Reilly's OH-MD Republic LLC transferred the warranty deed for the property to Casey's on Aug. 13.
O’Reilly Hospitality Management's website continues to list the Macadoodles store in north Springfield at 3080 N. Kentwood Ave. among its portfolio.
The south Springfield location of Macadoodles at 1455 E. Independence St. is currently closed. The store's Facebook page announced in June that it was temporarily closed as new, undisclosed owners take over operations.
The Independence Street store was opened by Kim and Brett Lorenzen in 2012, according to Springfield Business Journal archives. A March 6 Facebook post from the Macadoodles store pointed to ownership by Adam and Judy Wozniak.
