According to a news release, a $15,850 CFO grant will allow CASA to implement a collaborative effort with other local organizations, including the Springfield-Greene County Health Department, to help CASA volunteers learn about recognizing and addressing the physical, emotional and behavioral health problems of abused or neglected children.
The advanced training is designed to help CASA volunteers incorporate early intervention strategies to more successfully advocate for children’s safety and well-being.
The grant is part of CFO’s $1.5 million commitment to address children’s “red flag” issues throughout the next five years, in cooperation with the Grantmakers’ Challenge for Children.
CASA volunteers serve as advocates for abused and neglected children in the foster care system in Greene County.
The county has one of the highest child abuse and neglect rates in the state, the release said.
