Carthage mayor's veto of mask mandate stands

Carthage Mayor Dan Rife’s veto of a mask mandate stands after the city's governing board did not gather enough votes to oppose it.

Carthage City Council voted 4-4 on whether to override the veto. It needed seven votes to do so.

The council instead adopted informal recommendations calling on residents to voluntarily wear face masks amid the coronavirus pandemic.
