Missouri Department of Natural Resources has referred a Carthage company to the state Attorney General's Office for violations of state underground storage tank laws.
Carthage-based Tiger Alley was cited for operating petroleum underground storage tanks without the required emergency funds for four months, according to a DNR news release. Underground petroleum tank owners are required to have funds to pay for cleanup and damages that could occur from a petroleum leak or spill.
Businesses have several ways of meeting the criteria, according to the release, including pollution liability insurance, passing a financial test of self-assurance, a letter of credit, a trust fund or a surety bond.
DNR is charged with enforcing the storage tank law and regulations, according to the release, to ensure companies comply with the law and remain in compliance. DNR could assess penalties for continued noncompliance, though the release did not give specific possible penalties for this alleged violation.
In cases where the department feels companies are unwilling to follow the regulations, they can be referred to the state attorney general.[[In-content Ad]]
