Carnival bringing faster Internet to middle of the ocean

Carnival Cruise Lines unveiled a long-range broadband system Monday designed to jumpstart Internet connections on its 101 ships.

According to CNNMoney, passengers have previously had access to spotty satellit-ebased Internet. However, the new system would offer smoother connections and allow passengers the ability to perform bandwidth-heavy activities like stream videos.

The system uses a mix of port-based Wi-Fi, satellite Internet and long-range Wi-Fi via antennas to establsh a connection when ships are within 40 miles of shore.
