Care to Learn hired longtime nonprofit leader Jared Alexander to serve as vice president of development to connect with donors and expand philanthropic support for the group that works to meet students’ health, hunger and hygiene needs.
Alexander was executive director of Harmony House, a domestic violence shelter in Greene County, but stepped away earlier this year. He was hired there in 2019 and promoted to the top job four years ago.
“Growing up in Springfield and attending Springfield Public Schools, I experienced firsthand how important strong schools and supportive communities are in shaping a child’s future,” Alexander said in a news release.
“Early in my career, I led free after-school programs in Title I schools, where I saw how organizations like Care to Learn build students’ confidence and self-esteem by meeting their basic needs. Now, as a parent, I’m grateful for opportunities to support our kids’ classrooms and schools and to be part of a community that shows up for its students. That's exactly what Care to Learn is all about, and I’m honored to be part of work that makes such a direct and lasting difference in kids’ lives.”
Care to Learn said Alexander’s extensive experience as a leader and fundraiser made him a good fit for the nonprofit.
Prior to Harmony House, Alexander spent nearly 11 years at Boy Scouts of America, Ozark Trails Council. His final roles there included program director and development director.
“Jared is an exceptional leader who has already made a lasting impact in our community, and we’re thrilled to welcome him to the Care to Learn team,” said Krystal Simon, CEO of Care to Learn, in the release.
“His extensive experience leading fundraising campaigns and advancing advocacy efforts is invaluable, but what truly sets him apart is his genuine passion for helping others. Jared understands that behind every need is a child, a family and a story; and he brings that perspective to everything he does.”
