Cardinals, STL college to renovate former Negro League ballpark

Backed by a $1.1 million donation from the St. Louis Cardinals, Harris-Stowe State University broke ground yesterday on a $1.2 million renovation of a former Negro League ballpark.

At the corner of Market Street and Compton Avenue in Midtown, the project calls for new baseball and softball fields.

The site is the previous home of the Negro League's St. Louis Stars.
