'Candy Crush' game maker files IPO

King Digital Entertainment PLC is looking to capitalize even more on the addiction to the popular smartphone game Candy Crush and has filed to launch an initial public offering.

Dublin-based King applied to list shares on the New York Stock exchange under the symbol KING.

Bloomberg reports the company filed to raise $500 million, a figure that’s a placeholder used to calculate fees and may change. Candy Crush made up 78 percent of cash spent by players at the company last year. Demand for the puzzle game, which features different colored candies, drove an elevenfold surge in revenue in 2013 to $1.9 billion.
