Candidates stopping in Springfield for primaries

Posted online
At least four candidates are making campaign stops in Springfield for tomorrow’s primary election.

Missouri gubernatorial candidates Eric Greitens and John Brunner, as well as attorney general hopeful Josh Hawley, are scheduled to visit the Queen City today, and Republican U.S. Sen. Roy Blunt is slated to join supporters in Springfield tomorrow, according to news releases from the candidates.

Republican Greitens, of St. Louis, scheduled a rally at 3:30 p.m. today at Springfield-Branson National Airport. Brunner visited Springfield at 11 a.m. at the airport. Other Republican candidates for governor are Catherine Hanaway and Peter Kinder, and there are four Democratic candidates - Leonard Joseph Steinman II, Chris Koster, Eric Morrison and Charles Wheeler - on the primary election ballot.

Hawley, who’s running against Republican competitor Kurt Schaefer for attorney general, scheduled a noon campaign stop today at Galloway Station Grill, 1281 E Republic Road. Hawley, son of Regions Bank central and southern Missouri Market President Ron Hawley, also is hosting a 7 p.m. watch party tomorrow at Metropolitan Grill, 2931 E. Battlefield Road. Two Democratic candidates for the job - Jake Zimmerman and Teresa Hensley - are on the primary ballot tomorrow.

Blunt plans to be in attendance for an 8:30 p.m. watch party tomorrow at Classic Rock Coffee, 1900 W. Sunset St. The junior senator is up against three other Republicans in the primary, as well as four on the Democratic side, according to tomorrow’s ballot.

Separately, U.S. Rep. Billy Long was in town last week. Long, who’s defending his seat against seven other Republican candidates tomorrow, on July 25 visited CoxHealth and Arvest Bank for roundtable discussions, followed by a discussion of business issues the day after at the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce. On the Democratic side, three candidates are seeking Long’s seventh congressional district seat.

The Greene County ballot includes elections for governor, lieutenant governor, secretary of state, state and county treasurer, attorney general, state representatives, county commissioners, sheriff and assessor. The ballot also includes a vote on whether to implement a half-percent transportation sales tax in Ash Grove.
